role-playing in the New

The old year is gone, that new already begun. What is on your agenda?

I am craving right now, once again missing after role play an Asian setting, whether or Triad wuxia action, only the right system for me right now.

L5R is of course always a Try, but unfortunately there are some things in the setting that made me a little push off, as the bad character of limited choice, particularly in relation to the Splash. The Rokugan metaplot va-vise is not exactly a revelation from the Lord, will not be mentioned.

In NoPress-Anthology, which I then won the still-GroFaFo Challenge, there is Pagoda. Pagoda reads a bit like L5R stripped. certainly worth a try, although I am not the magic appears to offset the rest, but basically you can do it fixed fast. However, I've got no experience of how well the double-triple-system. (A measure of success by the number of identical cubes. Appears to me a bit cumbersome.)

Kindred of the East - has for years been in my shelf, but so far little used. Vampires are now not really my thing, even if it is Asian. (I'm probably not emo enough.) However, Kote but wonderfully describes a mystical version of the modern Asia. So at least one consideration would it bring out because of the background again.

One option that I would come to mind right now would be to take Kote SR4. They throw magic, Cyberware and matrix out and keep only the Ki-forces to simulate wuxia action. If in fact several:

  • SR4 available as a German rules
  • Fast, reasonably balanced system with a focus that goes strongly in the direction of the commission, including the mechanisms for reputation and footwork holds
  • Guns, Guns, Guns (which are only adjusted to the current state should not)
